Are Your Stories Keeping You Small?

Aug 17, 2022 | 0 comments

Your life is made up of thousands of stories. Snapshots in time when you went somewhere new, met someone important, fell in love, broke up, uncovered a secret, lost something, found something, made a decision, decided not to decide.

Your identity is embedded in these stories. They describe who you used to be and tell how you changed to become who you are now.

Now, not all those stories had happy endings. Unfortunately it’s too easy to get stuck in the replay of what didn’t work out.

That’s because humans are wired with a tendency to dwell on the unpleasant and ignore the stuff that feels good. It’s called Negativity Bias. You can have one bad experience followed by 10 positive ones, but your brain will latch on to and obsess over that one bad one.

It Only Takes One, But It’s Often A Series

When I first started analyzing fingerprints, I heard nothing but praise and gratitude from my clients. Over and over they told me the work we’d done together changed their lives. And they weren’t just telling me. They were telling their friends, who would then book to work with me too.

One day a letter arrived from a woman who’d come to me for a single session 5 years prior. In it she called me a fraud and a cheat. It felt like a punch in the gut!

I remembered her. When we met she was stuck in a narrative that had everything to do with her family history and nothing to do with her dreams.

It also had nothing to do with me. The fact that she waited 5 years to give me a piece of her mind told me she was still stuck in that old story. It was easier for her to shoot the messenger than make the journey.

And though I knew I wasn’t to blame, I fretted about that letter for weeks. My brain’s negativity bias kept trying to overwrite dozens of client success stories with this single story of woe. And it called up every memory of feeling worthless to try and trick me into believing I was an imposter.

Flip Your Story On Its Head

The stories of what didn’t work can keep you playing small. It’s easy to get trapped in the narrative, especially when there’s a recurring theme in the storylines. And let’s face it, the universe never tells us just once that something needs to change.

You can replay that storyline over and over like Groundhog Day, or you can choose to let it point you toward what’s next in order to grow.

How do you do that? You examine it under a magnifier. You flip it on its head and identify what it’s not. You ask yourself, “What if…?” And then you start writing a new narrative with the desired ending. That’s exactly what I did after I got that letter.

Your Story Is As Unique As Your Fingerprints

What about you? Are you holding on to a narrative that no longer serves you? Are you ready to start living your next chapter? To plot out your story’s happy ending?

Whether it’s about shining in your business or having your best life, your fingerprints hold the key to turning your What Ifs into reality. I’ve been analyzing fingerprints for more than 30 years and have helped hundreds of clients plot their happy endings.

Flipping your story on its head and reframing it to point you toward success is just one of the amazing results I deliver with my signature Brand Fingerprint™ system. And it can happen in a single session!
